The largest state fair in the United States in terms of average daily attendance, the Minnesota State Fair is held annually the two weeks before Labor Day at the State Fairgrounds near Saint Paul. Some unique aspects of the fair include an annual sculpture made out of butter and the election of a Princess Kay of the Milky Way. In the 1901 Minnesota State Fair, then Vice President Theodore Roosevelt visited the fair on September 2 and first uttered the words "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Less than two weeks later, he became President after William McKinley was assassinated.

Among the musical acts booked for the 2007 Minnesota State Fair is a rock and roll concert on September 3 with Def Leppard, Foreigner and one of the three bands with twins that had a #1 Billboard (U.S.) Pop Charts hit, Styx. Complete scheduling information is available online at the Fair's web site.
